Rekonstitution eines Membranproteins (Praktikum)
Dieses zweiwöchige Praktikum ist Teil des Methodenpraktikums für Fortgeschrittene. Im Praktikum führen die Studenten in Zweiergruppen alle Arbeitsschritte von der Expression, über Zellaufschluss und Reinigung bis zur Rekonstitution durch. Anschließend wird das rekonstituierte Membranprotein auf seine Aktivität hin analysiert. Die Studierenden planen die Experimente eigenverantwortlich und teilen sich die Zeiten selber ein.
Membrane Biology (Vorlesung)
Biological membranes play a central role in both the structure and function of every cell. Not only do they define compartments, they are also responsible for the communication between the inside and outside of the cell. In this module we discus biological membranes from the perspective of their main constituents: lipids and proteins. Topics included are the diversity of lipids and membrane proteins, their biogenesis, interactions, dynamics and medical relevance. Each lecture combines both theory as well as related practical aspects for studying membrane lipids and proteins.
